Safer Internet Day

Today was safer internet day. This afternoon before we tucked into our pancakes we had a chat about how when we go on the Internet  we must always have an adult around to help us.

For two reasons

1) to make sure we are safe and don’t see anything we are not supposed to see. Especially on YouTube.

2) to help us use the Internet correctly.

If you want to talk to us about how to use computers, tablets, mobiles and gaming safely at home this poster might help you.

Even though we are only 4 and 5 years old it doesn’t mean we might not go on the Internet with our friends, siblings or other adults. We need to know how to be safe which means you do to!

This video might help open up a dialogue with us. Safer Internet Video

Surprise, it’s a Reptile!

Today Miss Irwin had surprise for us.

A bearded dragon lizard called Mikey.
We got to spend the whole day learning about him. First we had a hold and felt his scales.

We used our IPad time to take some photos of Mikey looking at his legs, claws and scales.
Continuing with our measuring targets for this week we measured objects next to Mikey to see if he was larger or smaller than them.

Some of us used rulers to measure how long Mikey actually was. He was 42cm long.

This afternoon we started our writing about Mikey and tried to you use super sentences by using punctuation. Finger spaces are the hardest so if you want to help us at home with our writing that would help us improve.

Before we went home we said a happy birthday to Miss Brindley as she turned 18 on Tuesday.

Dinosaurs everywhere!

For the last few days we have been enjoying our dinosaur topic.

Miss Brindley made us a messy dinosaur tray. We enjoyed putting dinosaurs in it and doing some role play.   We enjoyed using our small world, moving the dinosaurs around the land and making them eat plants and each other!
On the malleable table we used our playdough to create our own dinosaurs using tools to make teeth marks and cutting playdough to make spines and plates.
As part of our creative work we are making different dinosaur shakers with Miss Brindley. When making our shakers we have to think about the noise in the shakers and how our dinosaur might have sounded when they moved. Keep watching the blog to see our shakers when they are finished.

Miss Sherliker has been helping us this week by making sure we are secure with the names of our 2D shapes. We made 2D dinosaurs by cutting and sticking the shapes in place. We all did so well we got our target for maths on Friday.
By using the dinosaur library we have been learning some amazing facts. Did you know a T-Rex’s tooth was the same length as our head as measured from the top of our skull to our chin! 😮

During our IPad time this week we worked with Miss Irwin to learn how to take close up photos of the dinosaurs in the small world. Our  technology skilÅ‚s were very impressive. We are going to use these photos to write information sentences next week.

Don’t they look realistic?

Four fantastic days

Firstly Miss Irwin would like to say thank you to all the parents who came to parents consultations. It was great to meet you all and tell you how wonderful your little cherubs are.

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week.

Monday was RE with Mrs Armitt can you tell what we have been learning about?

Monday afternoon was PE. We had to perform our own gymnastic routine which had to include a jump, balance move and a roll.

On Tuesday we learnt our new sound ‘v’.

To write v we go down, stop, then go back up.As part of our topic we started writing letters to the Pirates and putting them into a bottle.

On Wednesday we did a secret activity with Mrs Armitt even Miss Irwin doesn’t know what it is. So watch this space.

Here’s a clue…

We also practised recognising teen numbers 13,14,15. We looked at big number squares to look at patterns in numbers. We played this game called number splat. Follow the link to play it at home.

Number splat
Today we created our own number hunt with the number 16. We wrote the number then split into to teams to hide them for the others to find. It was great fun!

Today we learnt our new sound ‘w’.

This afternoon we had French with Mrs Oakes and practised our colours. We listened to Twinkle, twinkle little star. Then we helped Mrs Oakes decorate her picture with her stars. Then we made our own stars.

After French we had time with the iPads to see if we can remember how to use the iPads. Our targets were to turn on the iPad, enter the code, find the APP and play bee it APP. If you have an iPad at home you could get it for free.

When we found it we could get it at home for free we fainted with shock!

After completing our targets we did some choosing and some of us kept playing on the iPads.

As you can tell from our hairy friend we have been using busy things APP. One of us created him on our busy things APP. Miss Irwin discovered him in the saved photos. Pretty cool isn’t he. 😀

Outside phonics and Beebots

On Thursday we went outside to phonics. We practised our s and a sound (phoneme) . We used water bottles, paint brushes, chalks and had letter hunts.

 It wa very exciting!

We remembered the letter formations. Can you tell?

After playtime we learnt what’s Beebot is.

It’s a robot. We learnt robots are like us because we are human beings. We can use our own brains, Robots can not use their own brains unless we put orders into its brain to work. The buttons on the top of the Beebot tell it which way to go. We learnt how to make it move and how to clear its brain to give it new instructions. Then we got to have a go with our friends.

In the afternoon we met Mrs Oakes our French teacher. She said hello to us in French and we practised it with her. Then she did choosing with us to get to know all about us.

While we were choosing we also got to start making our shark hats with Mrs Hamilton.

Tubs for tablets

33867_FLORA_Tubs_700x260

Letters went home the other day to inform families as a school we are saving tubs of flora and stork for tablets. We have to collect 50 to get 1 tablet.

Please can we ask families to buy these special tubs for your buttery needs. Next half term teachers plan to do regular baking to help towards the tablet challenge.

Spread the word to friends and family. If every family in school buys 1 tub we will be able to 2 tablets!
