What to do when your child says they can’t do it?

What do you do when your child says “I can’t do it”, or “Its too hard”. Well firstly you remind them to “Have a go” because as Miss Irwin always says  “Practise makes perfect!”, and that to struggle to do something only makes their brain bigger. Then if you need more encouragement you watch this video. A secret about the brain

At school we have been focusing on developing growth mindsets among our children by encouraging them to be persistent and to keep trying instead of giving up and becoming unwilling to persevere.

In class Jonah we have watched the video a few times. We have loved learning about our new friend Mojo and how he explains about his brain and how not to give up. Now when we come up against a stumbling block in our learning we talk about our brain and what Mojo learnt and how to keep trying.

Miss Irwin is always telling us that every time we learn something new or try to do something that is hard our brain is growing. Now we know she was telling the truth! 🙂
