Highest scorer wins!

All of our faces have been put up in the trees with numbers on. So we got our syringes and started squirting! It’s great fun squirting your friends in the mouth! If you get Miss Irwin it’s 50 points and if you get Mrs Worswick it’s 100 points.

This afternoon we also started to make our new topic role-play. We had a class discussion about what topic we wanted to do and this half term we will be learning about Dinosaurs. We have written a list of questions we what to know the answers to. We have also been watching the song on YouTube and love it!   Why don’t you watch it with us? ➡️Dinosaur song

First we painted some volcanoes to go in our role play area.

Jumping stars ⭐️

We all came back to school today smiling and excited about our learning. Miss Irwin said she could see our brains had grown.

Today we learnt our new sound ‘b’ a little tricky to write as is does look like ‘d’. But we try to remember b has a belly and we have to write the stick part of the letter first. Not like d where we write the curl first.

After play we finished our Shark in the dark story map. We are brilliant at reading stories using pictures and words now. Maybe if you have the story at home we could read it to you!

After lunch we had P.E our targets were

  • To be aware of things around us and b safe.
  • To use our balancing skills.
  • To be able to try different types of jumps.

As you can see we loved jumping and all managed to jump from all the different heights of apparatus with confidence. We could do a forwards jump and a star jump.

Over the next few days we will finish our sharks and start planning our new topic that we have picked! So watch this space! 😀

Holiday topic

Dear Families,

I hope you have all enjoyed your two week half term.

When we go back to school our topic will be holidays, this has come from the enjoyment the children had last half term, when they set up their own beach area outside. We will also be learning about different types of transport and how transport helps us to go on holiday.

We will plan our topic and what we want to learn on Monday. To enhance our topic I was wondering if you might be able to bring some things in from home to help with the role-play areas we will be having. We are going to start with a Travel Agents and outside we will be having a hotel with beach view.

Below is a list of things that would be good for us to borrow. Remember, if you can lend us resources, please make sure if you want them returned that they have your child’s name on them.

Things for our topic:

  • Sunglasses
  • flip flops
  • beach hats
  • travel brochures
  • small suitcases
  • any old holiday clothes – t shits, shorts etc
  • Empty suncream bottles

Please could you also bring to school or email a photo of your child on holiday. Can this be done by Wednesday, they will be writing about a holiday they have had. We will be putting their reports into a file in our travel Agents.

My email jemmairwin@hotmail.co.uk

Class Photos tomorrow afternoon so please make sure your child is wearing their full uniform.

See you all on Monday morning 🙂

First full day and week done!

We have just finished our first full day and our first week at school! Woo Hoo!
We are so brave and grown up Miss Irwin gave us all a mention in celebration assembly today ( our first assembly). She said we were all so good that she couldn’t pick one person to get a celebration badge because we all deserved one! 🙂

This morning Percy had left us a treasure hunt like we asked him for in our letter. We put on our waterproofs and wellies and set off to find our treasure.

Our treasure was a bag of sweets.
While we were in the allotment we had a look around at the vegetables.

On our way back to the classroom we had to have a jump in the puddles.

Then after playtime we had phonics. We practised our songs again. Miss Irwin said if we did them really well she would show us our new sound that we are learning on Monday. We learnt the song for ‘t’, but we really wanted to do the lesson! Miss Irwin asked us if we had ever written a word before? Most of us hadn’t. She said she would promise we would if we learnt ‘t’ and that our brains would grow and they would feel hot because they were on fire for being so clever!

We practised writing our letters, then Miss Irwin showed us what happens when you put them together. If you put s-a-t together and blend them you can write sat! So then we tried and we all wrote our first word on our own ‘sat’! Our brains were on fire! 🙂

This afternoon we planned our new topic. We shared our ideas of things we would like to learn about but in the end we decided on ‘999’. We like the idea of learning about Firemen, ambulances and the Police. Our plan has gone on the wall, next week we are going to make our role plays!

At the end of the day we had our first assembly and we did really well to sit and listen.

Paddington Bear went home tonight for the weekend. Miss Irwin chooses who he goes home with and it has to be someone who has been extra special all week and followed the class rules. Today Miss Irwin chose Nathan.

We are all very tired and deserve a good rest this weekend. Well done Class Jonah.

Deep blue sea

Dear Parents,

This week in class Jonah we have been practising how to do our work on our own without any adults help. In maths we looked at everything we’ve learnt this year from counting to, writing number sentences. Including 1 more and 1 less and the last few targets we’d been practising for doubling, halving and sharing. Miss Irwin and Miss Kippen were shocked at how on fire our brains are. In our writing we wrote about what kind of sea creature we would be if we were in the book ‘Tiddler’ , Miss Irwin would be a ‘Dori’ fish but bright green with a pink tail. Some of us were sharks, puffa fish, dolphins and crabs. We designed what sea creature we would be and what we would make it out of and we started to make them this week. Today we went to Buxton Opera House to watch ‘Tiddler and other stories’ By Julia Donaldson, it was brilliant! We loved it and the weather stayed good so we could have our picnic in the park. Thank you to the parent helpers for coming today.

Next week we will be finishing our sea creatures and making our new role-play an ice cream and smoothie shop. SO PLEASE SAVE YOUR ICE CREAM TUBS and bring them in. If you have anything else that you think might help such as; ice cream scoops, plastic cups, small chairs and tables for outside the shop, please bring them in for the role-play. Don’t forget to put your name on!

This week Miss Irwin has been out to meet next year’s class Jonah’s and it’s made is all realise how far we have come in almost a year! She is very proud of us all for working so hard.

How can you help at home?

  • We have been practising our tricky words and high frequency words: this, that, then, do, so , will, see, now, down, come and some. Please help us to read and write these, as well as the words in our sound pockets and in our diaries.

The little class Jonah’s will be coming in on Thursday morning and we are going to help them. We want to invite them and their families to meet all our families at the end of term for an ‘open afternoon’. This will be on Friday 19th July everybody is welcome to come in in the afternoon from 1pm. We can share our stories and things we have learnt. Please try and come…book it off now!

Enjoy your weekend.

Miss Irwin, Miss Kippen and Mrs Brammeld
