Moving up days

Today was the first of three moving up days.

We came into class as normal but then after register we went down to Class Moses. We met the children and Mrs Lamb who we are going to be with next year.

This morning we talked through the differences between our classroom and class moses’ classroom. We learnt where everything was, most importantly where the toilets were. We sat at the tables in’fab 4’s’. We looked at the behaviour ladder and noticed there was a bronze, silver and gold to work through past green. We got to move our pegs up the ladder when we showed good behaviour.

Each of us were given a stick to decorate at our new table. We wrote our names on them. They go into a pot and Mrs Lamb uses them to pick someone for jobs or to answer questions.

We drew around our hands and coloured it in. These are going to be for our ‘helping hand jobs’.

Some of us also managed to colour ourselves!

To finish we wrote four sentences about ourselves, then had a story with Mrs Douce.

Miss Sherliker said we were all very well behaved and worked really hard to show Mrs Lamb how we are ready to be year 1’s.

After lunch we went back to our classroom and wrote some secret sentences about Mrs Lamb. Tomorrow she will be asked to pick some good writers to go in our prize box.

SOME OF US HAVEN’T GOT OUR WATER BOTTLES IN SCHOOL. PLEASE BRING IN OUR WATER BOTTLES TOMORROW

Practising being Year 1’s- Day 1

Today we started the day with Miss Irwin. She told us what was going to happen for the rest of the day and this week. We learnt we were going to Year 1 to meet Mrs Hodder.

First we did our phonics with Miss Irwin, where we recapped all of our alternative ee sounds from phase 5. We tried to remember-ea, e-e, ey and y. Miss Irwin didn’t think we could do it but we could all remember most of them, we could read them in words and even write them in words. WOW!

Miss Irwin said she could tell our Year 1 brains were ready. After playtime we went to our new classroom- which meant we were class Moses for the rest of the day. With Mrs Hodder we came up with things that were going to make us amazing – like our new class rules. Then we started some writing which will make our first display. We also had a chance to plays some games too with our new class mates. Next Year’s Class size will be 29 as we will be mixing with some Year 2 children.

When we came back to Miss irwin we all said how we felt the day had gone, some of us are still unsure but we are going to try a few more days to see what we think!

Tomorrow we will spend the whole day with Mrs Hodder as Class Moses.

Dear Parents,

This week has been an exciting week where we have been Year 1’s. Miss Irwin came with us to our new classroom and she taught the new Class Moses. We all had to learn had to be Year 1’s and how to behave in a bigger class because in September there will be 28 of us! We have planned what we would like in our newclassroom and what it will look like. We have thought about what we would like to learn about next year and can’t wait to tell Miss Yates all about it. This week we have learnt to make puppets (check out the blog) and we cannow say we are carpetners and designers. Our brains are so big soon they won’t even be able to fit in class Jonah! We are going to make a display of our ‘mini mes’ so Miss Yates and all visitors to our classroom in September can see them and leanr about us.

Next week we will be back to normal in Class Jonah. We will be making smoothies and ice creams. We think we might even go over to the farm if we have a sunny day and have an ice cream. If any family members might be free to accompany us for a walk over, please let Miss Irwin know when your free and maybe you could come with us or even come in and help us make some! [Symbol]

How can you help at home?

  • Practise making smoothies at home with different flavours and write down the recipe.
  • Please keep reading our school books as Miss Irwin is finishing our final reading book assessments in the next week and wants to make sure we all have the right book levels for summer.
