Last week we learnt about camping and holidays we can have in England. We learnt about putting up tents and how to follow instructions. On Thursday afternoon, we had a camp out on the field and made strawberry and bananas covered in chocolate, then we wrote a postcard to our families to send home.

Camping
Our week of learning about Camping has begun. Today we started by putting up the tent. Miss Irwin put it up in the mud kitchen, she said if we are good we can have a go soon!
The rules are, we leave our shoes outside the tent. It’s lucky we have this rule, otherwise Miss Irwin wouldn’t have realised where half of the class were this afternoon. Can you guess where we are? 
Today Miss Irwin and Mrs Hamilton went on the Nursery visits. So Mrs Arkle and Mrs Cross taught us some tricky Year 1 maths. We learnt about odd and even numbers. We learnt that odd numbers always have 1 left over after all the pairs are made up, we tried it on our fingers. We could show you if you ask us! Then we learnt how to share numbers and what happens if there is one left over! Miss Irwin doesn’t know we’ve learnt this, so we are going to surprise her after she’s finished all her visits!
Tomorrow will be hot, so we must bring our hats and be wearing our suncream.
Holiday topic
Dear Families,
I hope you have all enjoyed your two week half term.
When we go back to school our topic will be holidays, this has come from the enjoyment the children had last half term, when they set up their own beach area outside. We will also be learning about different types of transport and how transport helps us to go on holiday.
We will plan our topic and what we want to learn on Monday. To enhance our topic I was wondering if you might be able to bring some things in from home to help with the role-play areas we will be having. We are going to start with a Travel Agents and outside we will be having a hotel with beach view.
Below is a list of things that would be good for us to borrow. Remember, if you can lend us resources, please make sure if you want them returned that they have your child’s name on them.
Things for our topic:
- Sunglasses
- flip flops
- beach hats
- travel brochures
- small suitcases
- any old holiday clothes – t shits, shorts etc
- Empty suncream bottles
Please could you also bring to school or email a photo of your child on holiday. Can this be done by Wednesday, they will be writing about a holiday they have had. We will be putting their reports into a file in our travel Agents.
