Dear Parents,

This week at school we started to learn our new double letter sounds starting with qu. We practised our writing by making a class Information book about Dinosaurs, using supers sentences and WOW words. We also starting making our scenery for the nativity. On Wednesday afternoon we made our designs for making our dinosaurs because on Thursday we had a whole day when we didnt’ even do any work all we did was make our dinosaurs from junk! We had a lot of fun and felt very proud of ourselves at the end of Thursday and wanted to take them home to show you, but they weren’t finished. We have almost finished them but when they are finished Miss Irwin says we are going to put them up in school so everybody can see how fantastic our Dinosaurs are. In numbers we practised finding our numbers and putting them on number lines the correct way.

As we worked so hard this week we filled our pot full of marbles, which means we get to write to Percy for a surprise. We decided we wanted a Christmas surprise as it would be December when we came in on Monday. We asked for a tree, reindeer, a Santa’s grotto and a elf workshop as well as a sledge! Lets hope Percy has been when we come in on Monday!

Next week we will be finishing our information book and starting to write our letters to Santa. We will be working on our number formation and number recognition and ordering. We will also be practising our Nativity, which we are excited about, we love the songs and dances.

How to help at home

  • Practise putting numbers in order by using post its and moving them out of order. Or playing on busythings number games on the computer.
  • Practise reading and writing our high frequency words and tricky words.

Remember

Costumes (if required) need to be in by the end of next week if not before- please put names on all items of clothing.

Have a nice weekend

Mystery Reader brings donuts and pancakes!

On Friday we found another Mystery Reader in Percy’s shed!

Georgette went to open the door and found her Daddy inside.

Mr Amies had brought with him one of his a Georgette’s favourite books.  Daisy the Donut Fairy which is written by Tim Bugbird.

The story was all about how the fairies liked to make Donuts but then one day they realised they had too many donuts and they didn’t know what to do with them. The fairies thought of lots of ways to use them, but not of them would really work! Then they end up using their donuts to save Pancake Pirates from their sinking ship with their donuts.

We liked the story so much we asked Mr Aimes for some donuts!! On Monday Georgette brought in some donuts and pancakes for all the children to eat while we re-read the story. Thank you Mr Aimes, what a lovely surprise.  🙂

Dinosaur making Day

Today was Dinosaur making day and that’s exactly what we did. We set about getting our designs and making sure we had all the correct materials to make it.

The classroom got messy and we had great fun thinking about how to make our designs come to life.

With Miss Irwin, Miss Kippen and Mrs Holford’s help we were able to make our dinosaurs in the morning

.

By the afternoon we wanted to cover them in newspaper so we could make them strong and paint them. We had the help of Mrs Walker and Mrs Griffiths.

Keep your eyes out for our dinosaurs to see them on display.

We are going to build a Mud Kitchen!

No we haven’t gone mad…its true we are going to build a mud kitchen to go in our investigation area!

Miss Irwin and Miss Kippen have been looking at pictures on the internet of mud kitchens and how we can learn with them and we think it would be a fantastic way to develop our role-play, personal, social and emotional skills and obviously, how to make mud pies and cakes!

To make our mud kitchen we are currently on the look for a few things. We thought it might be an idea to see if any of our followers had any of these going free that could be donated towards our mud kitchen.

  • An unwanted kitchen sink
  • old wooden or metal utensils (spoons, stirrers, egg cups, mug trees, bowls etc)
  • bricks
  • old metal pans
  • metal  baking trays or oven dishes.
  • wooden or metal bowls of all sizes

Have a look at some of these pictures so you can see how much fun we will be having.

Its true… we are not doing any work tomorrow!

Tomorrow is our Dinosaur D and T day where we are going to spoend all day creating and making our very own Dinosaurs.

Miss Irwin has said we are not doing Phonics or numbers. We get to spend all day making!

We’ve had to think about how to make a Dinosaur, what Dinosaur we like and what it would look like when it is finished. We thought about  how  we did it when we made the big T-Rex with Miss Kippen outside.

Then this afternoon we designed our own Dinosaurs from T-Rex’s to Pterodactyls.

Then we looked through all our recycled junk at what we could use to make our Dinosaurs.

Miss Irwin has said if there is any junk or recycling we have at home that we think would be good for our modles we can bring them in tomorrow.

Tomorrow will definitely be an busy and fun day. 🙂

Mystery Reader with a very long beard!

On Monday we had another Mystery Reader appear in our shed. When we opened the door we found Finn’s Daddy.

Mr Mitchell had brought 2 books. ‘How do Dinosaurs say good night?’ written by Jane Yolan

and ‘Uncle Alonso’s beard@ written  by Emma King-Farlow. We liked the way different Dinosaurs might go to bed. We also liked how many things could live in a beard!

We also asked Finnley’s dad what he did for a living and he told us he worked with buildings. We might be learning about buildings after Christmas so we might have him back in to help us!

Thank you for being our Mystery Reader Mr Mitchell.

Dear Parents,

This week we had a really full week of learning from going to church with Mrs Armitt to highlight of  Dinosaur Day. As well as being Dinosaurs this week, we also did fantastic writing. We all wrote WOW word sentences describing dinosaurs. Miss Irwin and Miss Kippen were so proud. In maths this week we learnt what a number line was and how to use it in different ways. In P.E we have been perfecting our throwing skills, we are getting really good at throwing into a target.

Next week we will be finishing our Dinosaur topic by making junk dinosaur models. So if we have anything at home that we could use to make our dinosaurs Miss Irwin has said we can bring in bags of recycling- such as cardboard, egg boxes, foil, yoghurt pots etc. We will be designing our dinosaurs at the beginning of the week, then making them all day Thursday.

How you can help at home

  • Help us with our new sounds and tricky words.
  • Keep reading with us and get us to make sure when we know what the word says we just say it!

If you want to start bringing in costumes for the Nativity please make sure they children’s names on them.

Have a nice weekend
