Today we turned into scientists!

Yes it’s true! We are that clever we actually turned into scientists this afternoon!

As soon as we put on our white scientist jackets out brains grew bigger.

Miss Irwin set us a challenge to draw information we were going to learn about dinosaurs from watching an infrmation video.

We looked at the land, trees, water, dinosaurs and fossils. We even saw volcanoes.

Our observational drawings are on display in the classroom for you to see.

After our science investigation we had time to explore. Some of us practised using the iPads to learn how to take good of our learning.

It’s reading time ðŸ“š

This week we started practising quiet reading time. This is when we sit in groups and do activities on our own to make the reading parts of our brains bigger.

We know that reading is fun but we want to read on our own. However because we don’t really know how to read yet we are letting the adults help us by teaching us new reading skills.

Every day we will try a new activity to help us learn our phonemes, practise reading words or to understand books.

Some days we will learn to recognise and use our letter sounds in games.

Sometimes we will use the iPads to solve reading problems. We will get chance to explore books in the reading corner with our friends… … or get messy learning our formations. We might even try and beat Miss Irwin at her own games!

Busy days – cvc writing, patterning making, more sharks and map writing.

Now we have learnt s,a,t,p,I,n,m,d,o, g, c, k,ck,e even more letters we can write words.

We have also been learning to recognise and copy patterns.

…and of course we carried on our theme of shark in the park, by covering our shark models with messy mod rock.

On the writing table some of us started to make maps.

Mixing colours

On Friday we spent the morning practising mixing colours. We learnt that there are Primary colours and secondary colours. Did you know if you mix primary colours together they make new colours- green, orange and purple! It’s amazing! We loved it. We did colour mixing sheets before celebration assembly.

After play we practised our painting skills and colour matching by painting our aliens.

Then we made some legs by bending and folding paper over each other.

After Open the book we had some buddy time. Another week done and our brains are getting so big it’s hard to get them out of the door to go home.

Rocket making day

We can not explain how excited we were today about rocket making. We came in super hyped up and raring to go.

We collected our materials and set to a few hours of hard engineering.

We worked so hard our rocket models were made by lunch.
All that was left after lunch was to decorate our rockets with paint, foil, tissue paper and those extra little touches.

The story of our Stick people.

Many days ago we went on a hunt.

We went far and wide to find the materials we needed to make our very own stick men and stick lady loves.

We collected sticks that were long and thin, short and fat. We found them in many strange places. On our travels we found leaves to use for hair.

After hours of hard graft and engineering we managed to complete our designs.

You will get to meet our stick people soon. There first appearance will be at our assembly.

This week for our writing we have been writing our own blog post with our own words. We will post it tomorrow with our photos of our stick people so watch this space.

Sentence challenge of the day

Mondays sentence challenge was to use our new sound ‘ee’ Miss Irwin wrote the sentence on her hidden whiteboard then we had to have a go!

Look how well we did! Our brains are on fire because we are starting using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and segmenting and blending for writing our words! Woo Hoo!

We were so good we shocked ourselves and we all fainted!
