Welcome to Astbury

Welcome Class Jonah parents of 2016. This blog will tell you what we have been learning in school as sometimes we can forget all the things we do.

It will have photos of us on the blog soon but we need your permission first. There will be a letter coming home in our bags this week.

Today was our first morning at school. It flew by so quick. We had a search round school to find the different places we will be doing some of our learning such as the hall, office, Mrs Worswick’s office and all the other classrooms.

We got to explore our new outside area and play with our new toys.

We enjoyed having snack time together with our new friends.

Before we went home we had a story with Miss Irwin.

We really enjoyed it. Why don’t you ask is what the story was about?

Tomorrow when we come to school we will have two jobs to do. We will have to practise writing our names on our new name cards and we will have to put our feelings peg one of the Mr Men to show how we are feeling.

Miss Irwin said she was really impressed with how clever we all were. We all had lovely manners and tried to listen really hard. You would have been very proud of us.

A new Class Jonah

Today was our first morning at school. We were all very brave coming in and settled down well. Miss Irwin was extremely impressed.

This morning we learnt about our feelings pegs. We all have a peg with our name on it. In the morning we put our peg on one of the Mr Men to show everyone how we are feeling. We can choose from Mr Grumpy, Mr Nervous, Mr Happy and Little Miss Helpful. Today we put our pegs on and nobody was on Mr Grumpy so that was a great start!

Also this morning we set out our learning environment by choosing our toys and resources and what we wanted to try out. We all tried everything. 😀

We sang happy birthday to Sidney for yesterday, as he had just turned 5. He told everybody about his new bike and then he got to put up birthday banners all over the classroom.

During choosing some of us made Miss Irwin blueberry cakes, painted pictures, used the diggers, played on the whiteboard and made bracelets.

Tayler recorded our choosing by taking photos on the iPad. What do you think?

We met Mrs Armitt. She helped us make our role play house and start drawing out portraits for the whole  school display. She will be teaching us on Wendesdays when Miss Irwin is in the office doing paperwork.

We showed Miss Irwin how we could write our names by writing our names for our pegs. Tomorrow when we come in we will need to find our peg to put our coats on.

Everybody seemed really happy when we went home because we’d all got to go in Miss Irwin’s prize box. This was because we’d earnt 5 stickers during our morning. Miss Irwin told us we can get stickers for good things like being kind and helpful, tidying up, good sitting and listening, for trying hard when doing work and for remembering not to shout out! We must all be amazing to all get in the prize box, what a brilliant new class we are!

Let’s hope tomorrow is even more fun than today!

New beginnings in class Jonah

It’s September and that means a new class of Jonah’s.

We came into school on Monday with our new uniforms feeling very excited. On Monday we made our class rules and got our class jobs for the week.

On Tuesday we had our first phonics lesson and practised our letter ‘s’. We went on bug club and wrote it on our whiteboards, then we went outside like snakes and scared Mr O’Leary ( he doesn’t like snakes). Then we practised writing our s the correct way with giant chalks on the playground.

We also found a letter in Percy’s shed he said we can wear his hat and coat if we want. He gave us his story book ‘The treasure hunt’ which we had at story time. We are going to write him a letter back and ask if he will do us a treasure hunt.

Tomorrow and Thursday we are staying for our lunch with the other children. We can bring our packed Lunch or have a school dinner from Alison for £2.10. Yummy!

On Thursday and Friday we are getting picked up at 1.15pm.

Miss Irwin is going to put more information on the blog soon and we will get our learning packs for our bags on Friday, when we do our first full day. 🙂
