Pretty maids and adventurous boys

Today was the day the girls got their hair done, got to put on their dresses and wear their tiaras. Today was the official photos for the girls to be the maids with the new May Queen.

As the girls prepared and got excited the boys spent some quality time exploring for insects and eggs with Miss Irwin.

Girls-
We were so excited today having our hsir done by Mrs Hurlstone made us feel so special. She brough special pink bobbles to match our shashes and hair ribbons. Then she helped us put in out Tiaras which Poppy the New May Queen had bought us. Then we got to wear our dresses and practise twirling in them and looking at ourselves in the mirror. Then we had to go and sit really carefully and smile nicely.
Our photos will be ready soon to buy.

Boys- while the girls got dressed up we got to choose outside with Miss Irwin. We started looking at the insects in the sand, mud kitchen and Garden centre. Then we decided we wanted to find more insects. So we got our tick sheets, magnifying glasses and coats and set off to explore all over the place. We found bees, centipedes, worms, beetles and then eggs in the chicken coops in the allotment it was a great hunt.

Chicken Interviews

This week we finally got chance to interview the prospective new owners of the chicks. We can only keep 4 when they get big or they won’t fit in the house.

So we practised our interview skills and got our questions ready.

Then we interviewed 3 sets of potential owners. The Moores, Mr O’Leary and the Stanmores.

Unfortunately we decided that Mr O’Leary was not successful in his interview, as he wanted to eat the chicks! However the Moores and Stanmores were. Congratulations! 🙂

The chickens we be rehoused soon.

Pirate Day!

Wow! What a day we’ve had! You won’t believe what happened!

Today was Pirate Day in class Jonah! We all came dressed as Pirates! The classroom had been transformed and Captain Irwin and Captain Kippen were talking funny!

We had cool costumes with hooks and swords, some of us had even grown beards overnight!

In the morning we did Pirate activities. We played in the Jonah Pearl, Pirate water, Pirate sand, Pirate playdoh and cleaned the Pirate chicks out. We made Pirate passports, earrings, telescopes, Pirate wedding dresses and pirate cakes! Even John the Rector came in for a spot of treasure spotting!

In the morning we realised some of our Class Jonah treasure had been stolen, we thought it might have been Captain Hook! After lunch we came back and Bobby found a map!

20130612-222352.jpg
We looked at the map and thought the treasure was in the allotment, so off we went!

It turned out it wasn’t there, so we had another look! Then we saw John and he gave us a plank to use!

20130612-222602.jpg
We then decided we should look up near the field and the trees!

But we couldn’t find it there either! Then Evie realised we’d gone past it on the path…after a long look Daniel saw a funny object hidden under leaves and branches it was a Treasure chest!

It was full of our treasure and Pirate Treasure! We took it down to the classroom to have a closer look.
In the afternoon we also played Pin the eyepatch on the Pirate and Pirate Bingo!

20130612-223204.jpg
Then we walked the plank and ate our Pirate cakes and crisps!

We talked about our day…
Evie said the best thing was ‘everything what we did’, Jacob liked ‘the walking the plank’. Becky liked ‘finding the treasure’ and Lucas said Captain Irwin was the ‘best pirate Teacher ever!’. Captain Irwin obviously had nothing to do with writing that on the blog!! 🙂
We all had a great time! Now to go home and dream about finding more treasure.

Sunbathing Chicks!

The sunshine is out and so are the chicks! Today the chicks went outside for there first view of the outside world!

20130603-213048.jpg

20130603-213059.jpg
They liked being in the sun. We kept an eye on them and checked they were ok. They seemed to like the sunshine.

20130603-213217.jpg
While the weather stays nice we are going to put them outside in the day. Soon their coop will be ready and in a week or so we should be able to decide which ones we will keep and which ones we will give away!

RIP little Fergie

Unfortunately class Jonah had some bad news. Last night little Fergie the chick died, he just wasn’t strong enough to survive. It’s been a little bit upsetting for some of us today especially Miss Irwin.
The class decided they wanted to bury Fergie. So we made plans of what to do.
This afternoon we had a chick funeral. Some of us made a cross with Miss Kippen and some of us wrote a prayer with Miss Irwin. We buried him, said our
Prayer and put a special stone on his grave.

He’s up in chick heaven now running around watching over us and we know that because Romeo saw the sun come out as soon as we buried him.
RIP Fergie.
