A finished Igloo and the Grand Opening of the Mud Kitchen

On Friday we invited our families into class in the afternoon to see our houses that we had built, to look in our clever Cat books and to see our Igloo and mud kitchen.

What a way it was to finish our topic on Buildings with a finished Igloo. It’s only taken Class Jonah, Miss Kippen, Miss Beaumont, Miss Bono, Miss Robinson, Mrs Holford and Miss Irwin 6 weeks to make but it’s finally finished and guess what, you can fit a almost all of Class Jonah inside it at one time!

Thank you to everybody who helped us collect the milk cartons to make this big Igloo.

After we looked at our Igloo and tried it out we went to do the official opening of the Mud Kitchen. Which has been very kindly been made by Mr Holford with the help of Mr Aimes. We had kind donations of pots, utensils and appliances from parents and staff. Mr Holford was there to cut the ribbon with Maddie and Georgette, we all then went up to have a look. We love our mud kitchen and our sign-thank you Mr Holford. We cant wait to start back after half term and to choose in there.

We have all worked exceptionally hard this term and we should be very proud of the journeys we have made in our learning so far. But now it’s time for a well deserved rest.

We hope you all have a very nice half term and don’t get blown away in the blustery wind.
Miss Irwin and Miss Kippen.

Newsletter 9.1.14

Dear Parents,

We have had a good start back to the week. We came in bright eyed and listening really well, Miss Irwin and Miss Kippen think we have grown taller and our brains have definitely grown bigger!

This week we planned our new topic ‘buildings’ . With the building work going on in school and in our classroom Miss Irwin thought it might be a good idea! We planned that we would make our Igloo out of milk cartons, design and make our Mud Kitchen, make towers, make our own houses, look at houses, have an Estate Agent role-play and any more things.

In our phonics we have recapped our sounds from before Christmas, learnt ng and ai. We have also been practising our sentence challenge with Miss Irwin by trying to write super sentences using our new sounds eg ‘the king had a ring’. In maths we have made charts to record how many milk cartons we have, what houses we
live in and what houses there are in Astbury Village!

Next week we will hopefully start making our Igloo. We will also be going for another walk which we will need help for- are any parents free on Wednesday afternoon? Please let Miss Irwin know if you can help.

How you can help at home
🔹practise writing super sentences with small words. The cast has long bat.
🔹Try and read with us and practise our sounds and word cards.
🔹Make your own chart at home- how many toys have you got?

Remember any good work can go in our Clever cat books.

reminder
Tuesday is the whole school 101 Dalmatian trip. We will be late back. Anybody not going will be taught in school and will go home at normal time.

Have a nice weekend
Miss Irwin and Miss Kippen

Back to school

On Monday we came back to school full of Christmas stories and news to share. We couldn’t wait to share it with our friends.

Then we went for a look around school at the building work.

After play we started to count our milk cartons we have been collecting. We started practising counting in 10s because that’s how Miss Irwin and Miss Kippen have hung them up outside. We counted 270! We think we will need about 340-400 to make our Igloo!

A great start back to a new term. 🙂

Building Work

In January the school will be having some building work done. To incorporate the changes to our daily school life into our learning, we will be looking at buildings; how to make them, what they are made of and how we use them.

We have already told you about our plans for our outside mud kitchens   and are still collecting our resources for this so if you can help we would really appreciate it.

We still need pots, pans, wooden and metal only please. If you want to know more about our mud kitchen plans look at this blog mud kitchens .

But we also want to make some large buildings.

Miss Irwin and the staff at school have started to collect milk cartons to make a special building. You may have started to see large collections of them hanging outside

If you have milk cartons at home please can you bring them into school to help with our building. The size we are collecting is the 2 litre bottles.

We need 300+ bottles.

Please ask your family, friends and neighbours to help if you can.
