We had a great trip to Tesco this morning. Tracey and Wendy looked after us very well.

We got clipboards and had to go on fruit and vegetable hunts. Then we had to decided how these fruit and vegetables were grown.

Then came the really good but- food tasting.

Did you know

  • Watermelon seed were found in the tombs in the pyramids!
  • Pineapples grow from the ground like a cabbage!
  • Kiwis come from China- they are named after the bird on the national flag of New Zealand.
  • Sharon fruit- tastes like sweet apples!
  • Avocado it’s called the alligator fruit because of its skin!

We were all give. A Tesco bag of goodies and a piece of free fruit. Then we went off to spend our money.

How you can help at home after this week’s learning 7.10.16

This week we have been extremely busy learning and exploring.

In phonics we learnt – g,o and c. We know their capital names and sound. To help us learn them at home you can practise writing them, spotting them on labels and food wrappers.

These are some in our classroom that Finley our new class member found today.

Cars

  Eco
Ice Cream truck

  Crab
We could even sing the songs with you by watching the YouTube jolly phonics song.

Jolly phonics songs

In maths we have been practising careful counting this means counting one object at a time.

Can we count different things at home? If so can we send Miss Irwin photos or videos of us counting so we can show our friends next week?

Other things we’ve learnt this week-

  1. That dinosaurs laid eggs and how we could make some.
  2. How to program a beebot robot to make it move.
  3. Practise makes perfect when writing our letters and it doesn’t matter how, when or for what reason we just need to write.
  4. That reading, writing inside a castle is great fun.

Harvest festival starts at 11am on Sunday we can bring along our cans to church.

Happy weekend. 😃

Today we turned into scientists!

Yes it’s true! We are that clever we actually turned into scientists this afternoon!

As soon as we put on our white scientist jackets out brains grew bigger.

Miss Irwin set us a challenge to draw information we were going to learn about dinosaurs from watching an infrmation video.

We looked at the land, trees, water, dinosaurs and fossils. We even saw volcanoes.

Our observational drawings are on display in the classroom for you to see.

After our science investigation we had time to explore. Some of us practised using the iPads to learn how to take good of our learning.

Safer Internet Day

Today was safer internet day. This afternoon before we tucked into our pancakes we had a chat about how when we go on the Internet  we must always have an adult around to help us.

For two reasons

1) to make sure we are safe and don’t see anything we are not supposed to see. Especially on YouTube.

2) to help us use the Internet correctly.

If you want to talk to us about how to use computers, tablets, mobiles and gaming safely at home this poster might help you.

Even though we are only 4 and 5 years old it doesn’t mean we might not go on the Internet with our friends, siblings or other adults. We need to know how to be safe which means you do to!

This video might help open up a dialogue with us. Safer Internet Video

Safe surfing .

Harvest Festival on Sunday

Dear Parents.

Just a reminder it’s the Harvets Festival service on Sunday. We hope you can make it. It’s at Astbury Church 10am. The children will be taking part in the service by saying a prayer and singing.

We ask that this year we do not bring fresh items of food only tins.

Please let me know if your child will not be attending.

Many thanks

Miss Irwin

Fact: sharks can be as long as the school corridor

In the morning we did our quiet reading, Miss Irwin was very impressed with how much some of us have been reading at home. 📖👍

We learnt a new sound ‘c’. We should now recognise s,a,t,p,I,n,m,d,g,o,c and begin to segment and blend them into c-v-c words such as dog, God, cat, dad, sit etc. Please help us at home to learn them too.

During some maths time Miss Irwin let some of us do some careful counting with ink which was great fun.

This afternoon we had some fantastic ideas. We learnt what ‘facts’ are, they are true bits of information. We looked at a website about sharks. We were amazed at the facts.

We learnt

  1. Sharks have been living on Earth long before Dinosaurs.
  2. That sharks can grow to 13m long.
  3. They can have 20,000 teeth in their lifetime.
  4. That sharks have strong jaws.
  5. Sharks are meat eaters called ‘carnivores’

You can look at the website here. Shark facts

After learning these facts we went outside to measure how long a whale shark would be. We used a measuring wheel and chalk.

It was a very long way!
Then we measured 13m inside the school corridor. It was from our classroom to the wall by the hall.

We also made some sharks structures, had a go on an obstacle course, made more inventions with the marble runs. We did some drawing and experienced terential rain.

Such a fun filled day. What will tomorrow bring?

Rocket making day

For making our Rockets next week we need to save some materials to build them. By the end of this week we will have learnt a lot about rockets and what they look like. We will have made our design by Friday and will bring a copy home for you to see.

Miss Irwin suggests these might be useful for us to have.

Other materials that might useful could be bottle tops, cardboards and foil.

Please bring in all our materials on Rocket making day.
