Today to finish our topic we had a water fight. Unfortunately the sunshine didn’t stay out for very long, but we still had a great time.
We got soaked and we made sure Miss Irwin did too! 🙂
Thursday morning after the Astburies we will be having our water fight.
We need to bring in
Last week we learnt about camping and holidays we can have in England. We learnt about putting up tents and how to follow instructions. On Thursday afternoon, we had a camp out on the field and made strawberry and bananas covered in chocolate, then we wrote a postcard to our families to send home.
After the summer concert we were all very tired, but then Miss Irwin told us she was going to train us to be Lifeguards!
She said by the end of the week we were going to have an exam and we would be tested on our life saving skills, first aid and water safety knowledge. We didn’t really know what she was talking about but she said it would help us to save peoples lives and we thought that was very exciting!
On Wednesday we learnt the water safety flags. Then we learnt the water safety signs. Even though we may not be able to read all the words with the signs we all know what the pictures tell us. We learnt a warning sign was a triangle.
We learnt how to save people when they have fallen in a river, canal, swimming pool, pond or mere. We learnt how to do it by keeping ourselves safe by not going in the water, but by using clothes, footballs, floats, sticks and branches.
Then we learnt the recovery position. We had to learn how to put people in a safe position if they weren’t moving or breathing.. We had to check the breathing, then move their arm and knee, so we could pull them over so they were safe. The we had to tilt their heads back so they could breath.
It may look as though we are having an nap, but we are actually learning the recovery position!
On Friday we had our exam in the morning and luckily we had some extra helpers- Mrs Reeves, Mrs Bacon and Mrs Dawson to be saved or put in the recovery position. Thank you mummies for helping us. We all passed our exam and received our certificate in celebration assembly. Miss Irwin was extremely proud of us all. 🙂
Hopefully we can remember this for the future if we ever need it.
Dear Parent and carers,
As you may be aware our summer concert is being rehearsed and planned in school at the moment. The concert is called ‘Treasure Island’ and is based (loosely) on the famous book of the same name. Class Jonah have been chosen to be GREEN pirates and will be performing the song ‘The day I went to sea’ during the concert itself. Your child’s costume should therefore be a relatively easy task to assemble.
All they will need is a pirate costume (the ac curacy is left to your discretion) of which one particular item is the same colour as their tittle (scarf, t-shirt, hat etc) but I would ask that there are no (at least noticeable) logos on the item itself in order to preserve some authenticity. Thus a Manchester United shirt, whilst red, is a little too contemporary.
Thanks for your help and if you have any questions, please ask your class teacher or myself.
Regards
Mr Robinson
NB- Please also be aware children need to be at the barn for 6.15pm for the evening performances. Children will be left with their class teachers and must be collected afterwards from a member of staff. The Production is expected to last between 45mins and an hour.
Children are to wear a t-shirt of their team colour- red, blue, green or yellow.
Please see the list below.
