This afternoon Miss Irwin taught us about the Village tradition of May Day and how it’s a big celebration for our school. We learnt about the maypole and the Queen and her retinue.
Then we were told we were entering a competition to design a the May Day front cover for the programme book. We got very excited!
Using old May Day photos and ideas we had learnt about May Day we drew our designs.
We know the whole school is entering the competition but we are keeping our fingers crossed that one of us might win! 😬
Our drawing skills were very good and our colouring was careful and neat.
Next week we will be attempting to make our own Penguins! But to do this we will need an empty water bottle. Please can you help us save a water bottle for next week and write our name on it and bring it in.
WE NEED YOUR RECYCABLES
We are in need of recyclables such as egg boxes, tissues boxes, toilet/kitchen rolls, toothpaste boxes, empty food cases/boxes, plastic lids, detergent bottles and anything else that would be exciting to make models with.
If you can save these recycables and bring them in on December 16th we will use them to make our very own Christmas masterpiece. So watch this space!
Do you eat eggs? Do they come in egg boxes?
Please can you save them and bring them into Class Jonah so we can make our very own Hungry Caterpillars.
We need quite a few egg boxes so please ask family and friends.
This afternoon we’ve been painting with our fingers and we have created some beautiful master pieces.
We learnt how to look at the flowers at the colour and size of the flowers and petals and then to decide which fingers to use to make the right size print.
Some of us learnt how to mix colours by making purple, light blues and green. We also managed to get paint in other places other than on the paper as the wind blew our paintings on us! You might find paint in some strange places, but all the paint used will wash out!
Our artistic skills will be on show in the garden centre soon for viewings.
Today was Dinosaur making day and that’s exactly what we did. We set about getting our designs and making sure we had all the correct materials to make it.
The classroom got messy and we had great fun thinking about how to make our designs come to life.
With Miss Irwin, Miss Kippen and Mrs Holford’s help we were able to make our dinosaurs in the morning
By the afternoon we wanted to cover them in newspaper so we could make them strong and paint them. We had the help of Mrs Walker and Mrs Griffiths.
Keep your eyes out for our dinosaurs to see them on display.
Today was Art Day and we were drawing pictures for an Art competition. All the schools in Congleton are entering.
We had to look at an artist and draw a picture in there style. We looked at Stephen Wiltshire he draws landscape pictures from memory and is extremely good. Miss Irwin told us about him and how special he was. She showed us his work in the gallery on his we page, we were amazed!
Miss Irwin said if we tried we could do pictures like him. So we practised a sketch on whiteboards sat at our Year 1 tables, then we drew it for real.
We drew a picture of the Astbury green and Church. Then we drew the shape outlines, then added the details we coloured them In like Stephen’s bus, with just select colours in certain places. We used blue and green.
These are our final pictures.
At the end of the day Miss Irwin had to pick 6 people to go in the Competition.
Because we all worked so hard we got a prize. It’s been a brilliant day 🙂
