Caterpillars hatching

Finally the caterpillars have hatched into butterflies!

When we came in today we noticed there was a butterfly out of its chrysalis.

Then after register we saw two more butterflies hatch.

When they came out their wings were wrinkly and wet. They didn’t flap their wings. We read the information books and it said that their wings had to dry and go hard before they would start to move them.
In the afternoon we put in some sugar water and flowers for them to eat and drink.

Mr O’Leary came in and we showed them him. He showed us a photo on his phone of butterflies he’d seen at the Natural History Museum in London. There were butterflies eating oranges and banana skins! So after snack we put in a banana skin. Tomorrow we might put in an orange!
